Last minute surprise: Sónar 2015 adds Owen Pallett and Arthur Baker to its line-up
Sónar adds two new performances to the SonarVillage stage at Sónar by Day: Toronto's brilliant young musician and composer Owen Pallett; and historic US producer and remixer Arthur Baker, who will also present and talk about his latest documentary at Sónar+D.
Precocious genius and virtuoso violinist Owen Pallett will touch down at Sónar by Day with the echoes of his extraordinary last LP "In Conflict" still resonating. The Canadian will revisit his album, as well as other work from his intense career -which includes collaborations with Arcade Fire and Beirut, and works for opera and cinema- joined by several musicians on stage, where Pallett will combine vocals, keyboards and a violin filtered through all types of pedals and effects.
Straight after the Pallett concert, the same venue will host a set by the legendary Arthur Baker, producer of Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock", a pioneering remixer and a key figure in electro and original New York hip-hop, whose CV includes works for New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Al Green and Bob Dylan, among many others. Baker will also present and talk about his new documentary "808 The Movie" at Sónar+D. The film discusses the popular Roland TR-808 drum machine and includes appearances from Damon Albarn, 2manydjs, Tiga, Goldie, François Kevorkian and, of course, Afrika Bambaataa.
